Bertha Zaft Hall Geltz

Bertha Zaft Hall Geltz, 95, formerly of Finleyville and New Eagle, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 16, 2017, in Paramount Senior Living, Bethel Park.

She was born October 20, 1922, in Pursglove, W.Va., the eldest of five children of the late Edward O. and Helen S. Ulijas Zaft.

She was the wife of the late Charles B. Geltz.

After graduating from Trinity High School in 1940, Mrs. Geltz went on to graduate in 1941 from the secretarial class at Penn Commercial College.

She worked for the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., and the Chemical Warfare Department in San Jose Island, St. Thomas and the Virgin Islands.

After settling in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Geltz started working at a job she loved at Consolidation Coal Co. in 1957. She worked in the patent and legal department as a legal secretary, before retiring after 21 years in 1978.

She enjoyed taking cruises, visiting new places and meeting new people.

Surviving are her youngest sister, Margaret Smail of New Eagle; three children, James M. (Celia) Hall, Robert J. Hall and Karen M. (Ron) Hamilton; and two stepchildren, Carlton (Cathy) Geltz and Joan Mutschler. She was a loving grandmother to her four grandsons, Michael (Laura) Hall, Steven (Ning) Hall, Ryan (Sarah) Hamilton and Luke Hamilton. Also surviving are her 10 loving stepgrandchildren, Corey, Scott and Chris Geltz, Dale (Chris), Wade (Ivia) and Duane (Connie) Hensley, Susan (Michael) Rogers, Charles (Susan) Mutschler, Marcy (Johan) Van de Meulebroecke and Shelley (Chris) Davenport; three great-grandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Deceased are three siblings, Emma Buzzeo, Pauline Caserta and Edmund Zaft; two brothers-in-law, Louie Buzzeo and Ralph Smail; a stepdaughter, Trudy Hensley; and two nephews, Terry and Jamie Caserta.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m., the time of services, Sunday, November 19, in Kegel Funeral Home Inc., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, David P. Kegel, director, 3560 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. Private entombment will be in Mt. Royal Cemetery Mausoleum, Glenshaw.
