Carolyn Jean Fordyce
Carolyn Jean Fordyce, 91, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017, in Mercy Allen Hospital, Oberlin, Ohio, following a brief illness.
She was born September 1, 1926, in Greene County, a daughter of George and Mae Moore.
Mrs. Fordyce worked as a custodian for Lorain City Schools, retiring in 1988 after 20 years of service.
She was a lifelong, active member of Broadway Assembly Church, Lorain. She was a virtuous woman of strong faith.
Mrs. Fordyce was encouraging to all she knew and possessed a forgiving heart. She enjoyed making quilts and made a quilt for each of her grandchildren as a wedding gift. Cooking and baking also brought her joy. Each Valentine’s Day, she would bake a heart-shaped cake for each member of the family.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Raymond Fordyce; children Timothy Fordyce of Lorain, Christopher (Carolyn) Fordyce of Charleston, S.C., Gregory (Jacquelyn) Fordyce of Lorain, Tanya (Toby) Pritchett of Amherst, Ohio, and Melissa Snow of Anderson, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Earl (Angela) Moore of Rochester, N.Y.; and two sisters, Naomi Wood of Washington and Yvonne Frost of Amherst.
Deceased are her parents, George and Mae Moore; nine siblings; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Fordyce; and a son-in-law, Curtis Snow.
The Fordyce family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Broadway Assembly Church, 5495 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, with the Rev. Matt Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.
