Shirley Ann Dinch

Shirley Ann Dinch, 72, of Claysville, lost her four-month battle with cancer Friday, November 17, 2017, in Washington Hospital.

She was born July 17, 1945, in Springfield, Ill., a daughter of the late Harry and Ola May Hendricks Grubb.

Mrs. Dinch was a 1963 graduate of Suitland (Md.) High School. She resided in Suitland for most of her life.

She retired after 25 years of service from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., where she worked as a telecommunications specialist. She also worked as a cafeteria sub in McGuffey School District for 16 years.

A member and past president of Claysville Mothers Club, Mrs. Dinch was also a member of Red Hat Divas, Claysville American Legion Post 639 Auxiliary and a guest member of Claysville Community Association.

On June 24, 1982, in Alexandria, Va., she married Harry E. Dinch, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Harry Burton (Fiorella) Dinch of Woodbridge, Va., and Jimmy Edward (Vicki) Dinch of Bowie, Md.; a stepdaughter, Dawn Bowen of Martinez, Ga.; a sister, Betty Dempsey of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Deceased is a stepdaughter, Monica “Nicki” Russell of Natoma, Kan.

Mrs. Dinch was a loving wife, mother and friend to all. She will truly be missed.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, with Pastor Nelly Baker officiating. Burial will follow in West Alexander Cemetery.
