John A. Adams Sr.
John A. Adams Sr. of Avella died peacefully Friday, November 17, 2017, in Donnell House, Washington, with his wife Sheila, son Johnny and friends by his side.
He was raised by his grandparents, the late Mary and Frank Kolesar of Avella.
Mr. Adams was a graduate of Avella High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force upon graduation, serving as military police.
After completing his term in the service, he was hired by Climax Molycorp, Langeloth, working there until his retirement.
Mr. Adams enjoyed being with people at Sportsmen’s Club in Avella, going on family vacations and especially spending time with his son, Johnny.
He also drove a school bus part time and drove a van in Washington for the PACE Program.
Mr. Adams was a member of American Legion, St. Michael Church and Wellsburg (W.Va.) Moose for many years.
He worked many hours getting water to Avella. He enjoyed sports and political discussions, and he held offices in the UAW union at work.
Surviving are his wife, Sheila of Wellsburg, whom he married January 9, 1971; his son, John A. Adams Jr. of Houston; his aunt, Margie Torboli of Avella; and several nieces and nephews in the area.
He had years of medical issues and resided in personal care facilities for the past three years, last year at The Grove at Washington.
Private services and inurnment will be held at a later date at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. A memorial service will be held at The Grove at Washington in January.
