Florence Lee Snyder Hincy
Florence Lee Snyder Hincy, 101, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017.
She was born January 22, 1916, in Hundred, W.Va., a daughter of Irene Evans Hixenbaugh and Russell Berkley Hixenbaugh.
Mrs. Hincy graduated from Hundred High School and attended Fairmont State College, where she was a member of Gamma Chi Chi Sorority.
On January 16, 1938, she married Charles William Snyder, and together they operated a farm feed store in Hundred. Prior to her husband entering the U.S. Army during World War II, they resided briefly in Pittsburgh. Following the war, they returned to Mr. Snyder’s hometown of Waynesburg, where they raised their family of three children, Michael (wife Cathleen), Carolyn (husband Bill Lemmon) and Bill (wife Pam). They instilled in their children the value of education, and they all obtained advanced college degrees.
For many years, she and her husband operated a farming and poultry business in Greene County. In 1963, they purchased and managed a mobile home park in Miami, Fla. When Mr. Snyder died in 1966, she returned to Waynesburg, where she worked at Waynesburg College and Jo Ann’s clothing store.
On May 14, 1979, she married Tyrus Hincy in Waynesburg, and they spent many happy years together. Following Mr. Hincy’s death in 2004, she moved to Pawleys Island, S.C., and later to Georgetown, S.C.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hincy was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth and Keith.
Surviving are three children; six grandchildren, Amy Ervin (husband Mark), Susan Heberts (husband Nathan), Ashley Ward (husband Richard), Meredith Lemmon, Chad Snyder (wife Marion) and Elizabeth Pitcher (husband Larsen), and eight great-grandchildren, Oliver, Genevieve and Charlotte Ward, Will and Graham Snyder, Rockne and Beckett Pitcher and Lily Ervin.
She was a devoted wife and mother and loved all things related to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, travels with her husband, and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 2, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, High Street, Waynesburg, with Father Francis Frazer, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Waynesburg.
