Joseph F. Volkar, 74, of Umatilla, Fla., and Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, Canada, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018.

He was born July 14, 1943, in Venetia, a son of Martin and Antoinette Grousosky Volkar. He was the husband of 49 years to Irene E. Boldizar Volkar; father of Monica Proffitt and husband Kenny Proffitt of Front Royal, Va., Joe Volkar Jr. of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Loretta Yingling and husband Mark Yingling of Garner, N.C.; Pap Pap to Cooper and Keely Blake and Lizzy and Abby Yingling; brother to Dr. Martin A. Volkar and wife Heather of Umatilla, Patrick J. Volkar and wife Sandy of Cor de Lane, Idaho, Theodore C of Compton, Ky., Kenneth G. and wife Mary of Bland, Va., Antoinette and husband Don Fitch of Amity, and Vincent B. (deceased) and wife Judy of Pittsburgh; uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Joe was the hardest working man to everyone who knew him and was loved for his passion and amazing love and talent for farming. He took great pride in watching things grow and instilled a strong work ethic in his children. Everyone knows his corn, tomatoes and potatoes were undeniably the best you would ever taste if you were blessed enough to eat them. Joe will also be remembered for his flowers – what an incredible talent he had for growing beautiful flowers. Joe also had a passion for hunting, not only as a sport, but for the meat it provided to feed his family. Deer, bear, moose, rabbits, squirrels – you name it, he hunted it and never wasted a piece of it. Often called a Jack-of-all-trades, Joe could fix, build and repair absolutely anything. He never really took a day off, as he always had so much to do. We are thankful now that he is resting in Heaven and tending to “God’s garden” for eternity. He will be missed dearly by his friends, family and every single customer at the farmer’s market that meant so much to him.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Beyers Funeral Home of Lady Lake-The Villages. A service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in Lady Lake Seventh Day Adventist Church, 231 Lake Griffin Road, Lady Lake, Fla.
