Lawrence J. Anselmino
Lawrence “Larry” J. Anselmino, 81, of New Eagle, died Monday, April 2, 2018, in Donnell House Hospice Center, Washington.
Born October 6, 1936, in New Eagle, he was a son of Felice and Carolina Bertolina Anselmino. A 1955 graduate of Monongahela High School, Larry was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish, formerly St. Anthony Church, in Monongahela.
Along with his brother and sister-in-law, they owned and operated Anselmino Beer Distributor Co. in New Eagle. For a brief time, he worked at Corning Glass in Charleroi and then worked until his retirement for PA Dept. of Transportation. He was a member of Carroll Township American Legion Post 949, Hoot Owls Athletic Club in New Eagle and Victory Hill Booster Club.
For 20 years, he was a coach and president of New Eagle Athletic Association and for over 30 years was a Washington County Democratic chairperson. Larry was instrumental in the building of the New Eagle War Memorial and demolition of the former Monongahela Memorial Hospital and the construction of Lignelli Manor in its place.
Surviving are his beloved wife, who never left his side through his illness, Mary Ann Kruki Anselmino, whom he married September 29, 1962, and whom for the past 20 years, he enjoyed spending the winters with in their home in Tarpon Springs, Fla.; daughter-in-law Denise Anselmino of Canonsburg; twin grandchildren, Anthony and Danielle Anselmino of Canonsburg; three nephews, Gary A. (Beverly) Anselmino of New Eagle, Roger (Nancy) Anselmino of Monongahela and Randy (Lori) Anselmino of North Huntingdon; niece Robbin (Garrie) Jackson of Monongahela; cousin Wilma Anselmino of Queens, N.Y.; several great-nieces and nephews; and his extended family, whom he kept in contact with and traveled many times to see in Lauriano, Italy.
Preceding him in death was his son, Brian L. Anselmino, who died February 22, 2014; granddaughter Amanda Pauline Anselmino; two brothers, Albert C. (Mary Ann) and Sergio (Patty) Anselmino; and cousin Charles Anselmino.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with Father George Chortos officiating.
