Joseph Anthony Fernandez
Joseph Anthony Fernandez, 71, of Oakdale, formerly of New Cumberland, W.Va., passed away Monday, April 2, 2018, in his home.
He was born January 6, 1947, in Washington, a son of the late Joseph Fernandez and Mary Dvorsak McCombs.
He retired from Weirton Steel Corp. as an electrician and crane operator and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
A U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3526, where he served as a trustee and was past senior vice, and was a founding sponsor of the Flight 93 National Memorial.
Surviving are children Joseph (Ashley) Fernandez of Weirton, W.Va., and Jo- El (Sandy Greenhouse) Fernandez of Niantic, Conn.; two half sisters, Donna (Ted) Malesky Oakdale and Bette “Betsy” Guzman of McDonald; a half brother Donald (Sheila) McCombs of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Brendan Suroviak and Aiden and Gavin Fernandez; and two stepgrandchildren, Presley Streblo and Dylan Cunningham.
Friends were received Thursday in Turley Funeral Home, New Cumberland, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, with Father Jeeson Stephan as celebrant. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
