Marie Vincenza Scarsellato Kubacki Rybacki

Marie Vincenza Scarsellato Kubacki Rybacki, 101, a lifelong resident of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 7, 2018, in Evergreen Assisted Living, Washington.

She was born November 20, 1916, in Canonsburg, the eldest daughter of Mariano and Domenicuccia D’Amico Scarsellato.

She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg all her life and National Shrine in Washington, D.C. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, American Legion Post 902, Houston, and White Eagles Society, Canonsburg.

Mrs. Rybacki was a 1935 graduate of Canonsburg High School. She was also a graduate of Penn State Extension night school and Pittsburgh Beauty Academy. She was a certified cosmetologist and licensed cosmetology teacher.

She started her career at Continental Can Co. in Canonsburg, first as a can press operator. Her plant manager, John McKee, promoted her to the lacquering department when the new plant was built in West Mifflin. She was the first woman to be promoted to the quality control department in the West Mifflin plant. She rose to the position of inspector in the lithographic department. Her last position was secretary of quality control. She worked for Continental Can Co. for a total of 46 years.

She was lovingly known as “Mimi” and was well known for “Mimi’s Kitchen,” specializing in delicious baked goods. Her pies, nut rolls, cookies, cakes and breads were delicious. Her family thought her kitchen smelled like heaven. She loved to shop weekly and enjoyed it so much her family thought it might be her secret to long life.

Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Jawelak of Upper St. Clair, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased are her first husband, Joseph S. Kubacki, who died in 1956, and her second husband, Walter T. Rybacki, who died in 1996.

Although she and her husbands had no children of their own, she shared a very close and special love with her many nieces and nephews.

Also deceased are four brothers, Sabastian Scarsellato, Vincent Scarsellato, Capt. Frank Scarsellato and John Scarsellato, M.D., and three sisters, Guilda Labutis, Florence Matyuf and Erma Jean Heiser.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg, where departing prayers will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 14. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.
