James D. Petrola
James D. Petrola, 84, of Houston, died Thursday, April 12, 2018, in Washington Hospital.
He was born October 14, 1933, in Washington, a son of the late James J. and Madolyn M. McMurdy Petrola.
Mr. Petrola was a graduate of Washington High School, Waynesburg College and Duquesne University.
He was an educator, having worked in Avella, Washington and Mayfield school districts. He retired from Mt. Lebanon School District after 29 years of service.
Mr. Petrola was a member of Mt. Lebanon Education Asssociation, Pennsylvania State Education Association Retirees, National Education Association Retirees, Washington Jaycees and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764, McMurray. He was also a member of Washington Hospital Auxiliary for many years.
In his free time, Mr. Petrola enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes and socializing with lifelong friends from Washington’s West End.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.
Surviving are a son, Thomas D. (Disa) Petrola of Concord, Calif.; a daughter, Jayne (Phil) Storey of Richmond, Va.; and two grandchildren, Beata and Anya Petrola.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the funeral home, with Pastor Sue Petritis officiating. Full military honors will be afforded by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post 175, Washington.
