Daniel J. Accetturo, 89, of Canonsburg, died Sunday, April 15, 2018, in South Hills Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg.

He was born July 9, 1928, in Washington, a son of the late Samuel and Mary D’Amico Accetturo.

Mr. Accetturo graduated from Washington High School. Toward the end of World War II, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bremerton, and celebrated his 18th birthday while docked in Manila, Philippines.

He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191, Canonsburg, and American Legion Post 902, Houston.

Mr. Accetturo was owner-operator of Canonsburg Collision Service in Houston.

He was Catholic.

Mr. Accetturo was a pilot. He loved to fly planes in the ’70s, especially his 172 Cessna Skyhawk. In addition, from the 1960s to 1990s, he enjoyed boating and water skiing on the Monongahela River near Rices Landing. He was a regular at The Meadows Racetrack and instilled his love of harness racing in his young granddaughters.

In retirement, he enjoyed visiting his granddaughters in the Poconos and walking his dog, Mark, through Canonsburg.

Surviving are two daughters, Dani J. (Dennis) Scears of Cecil and Janet A. (the late William G.) Rice of Lakeville; four granddaughters, Keyne Rice of Lakeville, Margaret (Michael) Swingle of Tafton, Natalie Rice of Lakeville and Emily Rice of Lakeville; four great-grandchildren, Julia, William, Isabella and Cecilia; a sister, Evelyn; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his caretaker, Beverly.

Deceased are three infant sons and two brothers, Samuel and Joseph Accetturo.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or service.
