James I. Keener
James I. Keener, 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018, in Premier Washington Health Center.
He was born August 2, 1932, in Washington, a son of Edward and Lucy Johnson Keener.
Mr. Keener graduated from Washington High School in 1950. A loyal alumnus, he never missed a football game, home or away, since he was a young boy. He was also a devoted Washington High School basketball fan as well as an avid Steelers fan.
Mr. Keener was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea with the 7th Infantry Division.
He worked as an inspector at Owens Illinois/Tygart Valley Glass for 32 years and served as the recording secretary for Union 152. After the plant’s closure, he worked at the former Monterray Restaurant for 10 years and then as a bus driver for Intermediate Unit One, retiring in 2005.
Mr. Keener enjoyed working outside, especially tending to his flowers and vegetable plants.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Dave and Edward, and three sisters, Helen, Martha and Betty.
He leaves behind his beloved dog, Duke, whom he loved dearly.
Gateway Hospice and Premier Washington Health Center provided Mr. Keener with compassionate care in his time of need.
There will be no public visitation or service. Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetic Association, Two Chatham Center, Suite 1520, 112 Washington Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
