John D. Whipkey
John D. “J.D.” Whipkey Jr., 70, of Washington, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at home.
He was born October 8, 1947, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late John D. Whipkey Sr. and Glenna I. Neely Minor.
John was a 1967 graduate of McGuffey High School.
He was a member of John Corbly Memorial Baptist Church in Garard’s Fort.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. He loved to watch Jeopardy.
Surviving are four children, Jamie Whipkey of Ohio, Danielle Pietz of Mississippi, Travis Whipkey of Florida and Kendra Day of Washington; three siblings, Gary L. (Jill) Whipkey Sr. of Washington, Betty Minor (Robert) Fisher of Prosperity and Ronnie Minor of Washington; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Deceased is a brother, Sam Whipkey, and stepfather, Elbert Minor.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, September 4, in William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Harry Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.
