Joseph Gagich
Joseph Gagich, 90, of Avella, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018, in Southwestern Veterans Center, Pittsburgh.
He was born December 25, 1927, in Rea, a son of the late Serdan and Mary Oreb Gagich.
Mr. Gagich attended school in Avella and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He worked as an ironworker until his retirement in 1982 and was a member of Iron Workers Local 549, Wheeling, W.Va.
Joe had served on Avella School Board and was a former Cross Creek Township supervisor.
He was very proud of his dairy farm and treasured his antique water pumps. Joe was a hard worker and loved spending time with family.
On October 3, 1954, he married Mildred Victoria Marinkovich, who died August 20, 2002.
Surviving Mr. Gagich are four daughters, Joanne (Anthony) Izzo of North Las Vegas, Nev., Maryanne (Eugene) Capp of Wellsburg, W.Va., Diane (Dominic) Frank of Avella and Roseanne (David) Andersen of Henderson, Nev.; a son, Joseph A. Gagich of Avella; six grandchildren, Eugene Capp, Francesca Izzo, Anthony (Rachel) Capp, Dominic Frank III, Rachel Andersen and husband Nate Eisenreich and Natalie Frank; a great-grandchild, Vincent Capp; a sister, Mary Salopek of West Mifflin; a brother, Daniel (Barbara) Gagich of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are three brothers, John, William and Robert Gagich, and four sisters, Mildred Vorkopic, Jeanne Gagich, Ruby Andrich and Helen Karan.
A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, the time of a military walk-through, Friday, December 28, in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. Inurnment will follow in Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, with full military rites accorded graveside by American Legion Bert C. Sider Post 643 of Avella.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Bert C. Siders Post 643, 30 Short Street, Avella, PA 15312.
