Richard Alexander Ford

Richard Alexander Ford, 34, of Canonsburg, formerly of Chester, W.Va., passed away Monday, December 10, 2018, following a two-year battle with sarcoma.

Alex was a rainbow baby, born October 29, 1984, to Richard and Anne Ford of Chester, following the passing of his sister, Erin Elizabeth, April 14, 1983.

He was also preceded in death by his beloved Grammie, Mildred Cantwell; maternal grandfather Thomas Harris; and paternal grandfather Claudius Ford.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, is the love of his life, Jennifer Wherry Ford, whom he married January 3, 2015.

He is also survived by the light of his life, his 21-month old son, Mason Alexander Ford. Also surviving are his devoted sister, Stephanie Ford-Jones, her husband Matthew and their son Niko of Chester; Jennifer’s parents and brother, Paul and Sally Wherry and Paul Wherry Jr. of Canonsburg; his maternal grandmother, the Rev. Irene Ford of New Cumberland; and uncle and aunt Michael and Betty Ford and their family of Jane Lew, W.Va.

His treasured canine companions, Atlas and Ruby, will miss their wonderful times together.

Alex was a graduate of Oak Glen High School and West Virginia University with a master’s degree in safety management. Prior to his illness, he was an employee of Hussey Copper.

Alex was a gifted artist in music and photography.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 13, in Arner Funeral Chapel, Chester. Private services will be held for the family. Entombment will be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund for Mason Ford, established at Hancock County Savings Bank, 351 Carolina Avenue, Chester.
