J. Elgaline Sprowls
J. Elgaline “Jean” Sprowls of Washington, formerly of Hickory, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018, in her home.
She was born August 20, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of the late Elgie “Jack” Plants and Mary Seaman Plants. She was one of two children.
Mrs. Sprowls worked at the former Kmart in Washington and at Grosses Market in Hickory. After working at Grosses Market, she and her husband baby-sat numerous children from the Hickory and nearby areas.
Jean loved to listen to country music, her talking books, crocheting and having the company of her dog, Lola, by her side.
On December 28, 1945, she married Elmer Sprowls, who passed away July 19, 2018. They were married for 72 years.
Surviving are a son, Keith (Janice) Sprowls of McDonald; adopted daughter Debbie (Bill) Neal of Washington; five grandchildren, Ryan (Angela) Sprowls of New Jersey, Mackenzie (Jonathan) Warner of South Dakota, Evan (Quesha) Sprowls of Florida, Brandley (Linda) Danjou of Markleysburg and Bronson Danjou of Greensburg; five great-grandchildren, Dylon Sprowls, Rylie Sprowls, Olivia Warner, Emmaline Warner and Harley Danjou; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deceased are a daughter, Lynn Ann Tarris; a brother, Elgie Plants Jr.; and her beloved dog, Lola.
Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 17. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
