Mary Pollock
Mary Pollock, 95, of Carroll Township, formerly of New Eagle and Van Voorhis, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018, in her son’s home.
She was born March 26, 1922, in Brownfield, a daughter of Steve and Julia Revilak Starinsky.
Mrs. Pollock was a 1941 graduate of Monongahela High School. For 42 years she, along with her husband, John, owned and operated the New Hill Store in Van Voorhis, until it’s closing in 1980. From 1941 to 1945, Mrs. Pollock operated the store alone while her husband served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war.
Mrs. Pollock was a dedicated member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Monongahela. For over 25 years, she was the recording secretary for the church board, a Sunday school teacher, secretary for Ladies Altar Society, member of the ACRY and Ladies Guild.
She was a former member of AARP 4095 in New Eagle and Forward Township Senior Citizens. She loved to travel and one of her most memorable trips was when she visited Mt. Rushmore. She enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her son, Mark Pollock and wife LaVerne, with whom she made her home; daughter Mary McDevitt of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, whom she held a very special place in her heart for, Christina Turner and husband Kyle, Beth Carey and significant other Jake Holloway, Julie Trybus and husband Adam, Kate McDevitt and significant other Dave Achey, Rob Williams and wife Melissa, Mary Williams and significant other John Blum and Aaron Williams and wife Catherine; 14 great-grandchildren, Mallory and Drew Turner, Grace Trybus, Amanda Maddey and husband Justin, Jake Williams and significant other Shelby, Garret and Noah Kent, Jasper and Jacey Blum, Mike and Willow Williams, Jadon, Joseph and Elizabeth Williams; great-great-granddaughter, Rosalie Williams; brother, Paul Starinsky and wife Carol of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Irene Watson of Georgia and Helen Reynolds of Connecticut; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, deceased are her husband, John Pollock, who died November 29, 1985; and three brothers, John, George and Steve Starinsky.
OSPTA, Linda Wilson and Tanya Coleman provided loving care to Mrs. Pollock.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. A blessing service will begin at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, in the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 9:30 in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church with the Very Rev. Edward Pehanich as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Panachida services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
