Mary Berry
Mary Berry, 95, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, February 10, 2018, in Good Samaritan Society, Waukon, Iowa.
She was born December 28, 1922, in Washington, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Mae Mumbower Mowl.
Mrs. Berry attended Mount Lookout School, a one-room country school, and later graduated from Trinity High School, Washington.
On June 12, 1941, she married Russell Bankhead-Berry. Together, they had three children, Martha Jean, William “Bill” and Elizabeth Ann.
Mrs. Berry worked at the Top Value Stamp store for a couple years, and then stayed home, raised her children and helped her husband on the farm.
She moved to Iowa in 2004 to be closer to family after her husband passed away.
Mrs. Berry liked to embroider, square dance and travel.
She was an honorary member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church and a life member of Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church, Eighty Four.
Mrs. Berry was a member of Davis Grange and Pamona Grange. She served on the election board in Washington Township for many years.
Surviving are two children, Martha (Donald) Hanson of Decorah and William Berry of Marianna; six grandchildren, Bethany (Shayne) Barr of St. Louis, Mo., Donald Hanson Jr. of Bloomington, Minn., Anita (Al) Weis of Decorah, Dean (Roxanne) Hanson of Chanhassen, Minn., Rick Schroeder of Greensboro, N.C., and Melissa (Scott) Berry of Canonsburg; nine great-grandchildren, Ian, Benjamin and Cullen Barr, Richard, Helen, Henry and Rachel Weis and Tara and Tori Schroeder; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Russell, who died in 1996; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann, who died in 1963; a sister, Annie (Alfred) Kelley; brothers William (June) Mowl, Ross (Dottie) Mowl, Allen (Vivian) Mowl, Charles (Marie) Mowl, Kenneth “Doc” (Olive) Mowl and two who died in infancy.
Interment will be in Emmanuel United Presbyterian Cemetery, Eighty Four, at a later date.
