Eleanor Piatt Burt
Eleanor “Gertie” Piatt Burt, 96, of Washington, died Wednesday, February 28, 2018, in her home.
She was born February 8, 1922, in Dunbar, a daughter of the late Edward and Maude Hair Piatt.
Mrs. Burt was a 1940 graduate of Trinity High School and attended beauty school, where she received her cosmetician’s license.
She was a homemaker who, in earlier life, worked as a bookkeeper for Scenery Hill Auction and worked as a sales clerk at Hart’s Home Store in Washington Mall.
She loved attending sporting events for her children and grandchildren, going to Krency’s and Shorty’s, shopping and animals.
Mrs. Burt was a member of Church of the Covenant, Washington, where she formerly taught Sunday school and Bible school to kindergartners.
She was a member of Martha Washington Garden Club, as well as Redd’s Run Homemakers Club. She was a Cub Scout leader and was past president of Lone Pine Parent Teacher Association.
On May 17, 1941, she married Harold H. Burt, who died September 2, 2002.
Surviving are four sons, Donald R. (Laura) Burt, Daniel H. (Dolores) Burt, Harold H. (Valerie) Burt II and Jack A. (Karen Bushmire) Burt, all of Washington; daughter Betty Burt Bedillion of Washington; nine grandchildren, James B. Bedillion, Daniel G., Denny H., Michael, Mark and Matt Burt, Jack Burt II, Tiffany Bostic and Stephanie Burt; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Thomas Piatt; sister Edna Piatt Wiley; and son-in-law James D. Bedillion.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6. Interment will follow in Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Eighty Four. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
