Isaac Evans III
Isaac “Ike” Evans III, 66, of Jacksonville, N.C., formerly of Washington, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018, in his home.
He was born April 13, 1951, in Boomer, W.Va., the eldest son of the late Isaac Evans Jr. and Luvinia “Bonnie” Evans.
Mr. Evans was a distinguished veteran of the U.S. Navy. During his enlistment as an electronics technician, he served with honor and distinction aboard two nuclear-powered submarines, two fast frigates and two destroyers, earning him the Navy Enlisted Submarine Dolphins, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Achievement Medal and Navy Expeditionary Medal, along with various unit medals from different commands.
After leaving the service, he worked as a network systems engineer in Washington for many years before pursuing a career as an educator. He taught basic computers and computer networking at Western Area Career and Technology Center until his retirement in 2013.
On September 7, 1985, he married Susan Elaine Evans, who survives.
Also surviving are two brothers, Kenneth Evans and Randall Evans; a sister, Conzella Johnson; three daughters, Jannai (John) Rodgers, Ella (Matt) Boland, and Jessica (Ron) McKelvin; two granddaughters, Ella and Eliza Rodgers; a grandson, Jacob McKelvin; and various nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Jerry Leon Evans and Douglas Terry Evans.
Mr. Evans was a 1969 graduate of Trinity High School. He enjoyed golfing for recreation and was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He made the lives of the people he met better through his generosity, kindness and laughter. He will be dearly missed by those fortunate enough to have shared time and space with him.
