Bernard T. Ward
Bernard T. “Birdeye” Ward, 84, of Washington, died Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born October 20, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late Thomas B. and Mary B. Bredniak Ward.
Mr. Ward was employed as a glass feeder at Brockway Glass 7 for 34 years, until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Ward was a 1953 graduate of Trinity High School.
He loved watching all sports and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was an avid hunter and loved feeding wildlife. He was a member of Slovak Club, Pulaski Club, Polish Club, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 927 and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
Mr. Ward served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving the Good Conduct Medal.
On November 1, 1980, he married Alice Marie Brown, who died January 5, 1996.
Surviving are three daughters, Jody (Michael) Levy of Washington, Lori (Mark) Knotts of Washington and Cristy Berry of Washington; a sister, Jane (Gus) Fedis of Washington; five grandchildren, Joseph Avolia, Samuel (Karae) Avolia Jr., Haylee (Timothy) Dames, Hunter Lynn Berry and Hannah Christine Knotts; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and cousins; and a longtime companion, Helen Frabell of Washington.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, is a son-in-law, Steven Berry Jr.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., corner of Wilson and East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, where a blessing service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 8. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with full military rites accorded by the U.S. Army and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22 will render a service at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
