Harriet Nixon Seeman Beatty

Harriet Nixon Seeman Beatty, 95, died Friday, December 29, 2017, in the home of her loving caregiver, Lyn Hersey.

She was born February 25, 1922, in Uniontown, a daughter of the late Samuel Rhea and Anna Mae Browning Nixon.

A lifelong Presbyterian, Mrs. Beatty grew up in Uniontown. She was raised on the family’s dairy farm, “Homestead Dairy.” She graduated from South Union High School and attended Office Training School. She was employed in the Shoaf office of H.C. Frick Company.

On Easter Sunday, April 21, 1946, in Uniontown, she married Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Seeman. They lived in Carmichaels and were married until his death May 12, 1976.

On October 27, 1979, in the Poconos, she married James E. “Jim” Beatty. They resided in Carmichaels until 1984, when they moved to Barefoot Bay, Fla.

She was a homemaker for many years. She was also a clerk for Greene County Treasurer’s Office and then retired as a teller at Community Bank, Carmichaels.

Mrs. Beatty was very involved with Girl Scouts and the local 4-H Club in Carmichaels. She loved to sew and was especially crafty. She enjoyed playing bridge and 3-13. Once retired, she enjoyed the game of golf. She was proud of her “Johnnie Walker International Hole-In One Award” she accomplished May 11, 1988, at Palm Gardens Golf Links.

Surviving are a son, Sam Seeman and daughter-in-law Mary Jo Whitman Seeman of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a daughter, Susan Seeman Chambers and son-in-law Tom Chambers of Surprise, Ariz.; two grandsons, Michael Seeman and wife Beth Ann Seeman and David Seeman of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; three great-grandsons, Samuel, Wilson and Treyton Seeman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a niece, Judith Burchinal Giachetti of Uniontown; and a nephew, David Nixon of Uniontown.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Jim Beatty; two sisters, Charlotte Nixon Burchinal and Frances Nixon Marsden; and two brothers, Kenneth Nixon and William Nixon.

Mrs. Beatty’s “angelic” caregiver, Lyn Hersey, provided dedication and love in caring for her these last 14 years. Loving care was also provided by Rhonda Koren, Kathy Kennedy, Christina Clawson and Hannah Mullen.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 13, in First Presbyterian Church of Sebastian, Fla.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian.
