Shirley Justina Waller
Shirley Justina Waller, 85, of Washington, died Saturday, January 6, 2018, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
She was born April 1, 1932, in Buffalo, N.Y., a daughter of the late James C. James and Lena Saunders James.
Mrs. Waller was a graduate of Washington High School and attended Virginia Union College in Richmond, Va. and University of Pittsburgh.
She worked as a bank teller for PNC Bank for 15 years and was co-founder of Waller Corporation.
Mrs. Waller was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, served on the Board of Christian Education and sang in the choir.
An involved member of the community, she was a founding member of the Board of Trustees of Citizens Library, member of Women in Community Service, the IOTA Club, of which she was the last surviving founding member, and the board of the YWCA, and former member of Washington County Historical Society. In addition, she was a life member of NAACP, where she was serving as an executive committee member at the time of her death.
A loving mother, she will be forever missed by her family.
On July 10, 1954, she married Louis Edward Waller, who died February 20, 2009.
Surviving are a son, Louis Waller Jr. (Anne) of Canonsburg; two daughters, Phyllis Waller of Washington and Lorraine E. Waller (Vincent Whitehead) of Glenview, Ill.; and eight grandchildren, Danielle Drew-Tolliver, Kaitlyn Oakley, Jordan Drew, Lauren Waller, Taylor Waller, Elliott Waller, Lindsey Whitehead and Logan Whitehead.
Deceased are two brothers, Robert James and James C. James, Jr.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m., the time of service, Thursday, January 11, in Nazareth Baptist Church, 123 North Lincoln Street, Washington, with the Rev. Eugene Beard Jr. officiating.
Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
