Robert Lewis Gibson

Robert Lewis “Gibbie” Gibson, 95, died Sunday, January 7, 2018, in Clarendon Assisted Living, Woodland Hills, Calif.

He was born in Scottdale, the youngest of five children of Thomas Benton and Mildred Steck Gibson. He was a longtime resident of Washington prior to moving to Southern California in 2013.

After graduating from Ambridge High School, Mr. Gibson enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was a private first class.

After serving with the Air Corps, he joined the apprenticeship program of Steamfitters Local 449, Pittsburgh. He was a lifelong member of the union, working as a steamfitter and welder. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Chapman Corp. as a metal fabricator.

An avid fisherman and talented amateur carpenter, Mr. Gibson also enjoyed traveling around the country to visit his large extended family. He was an enthusiastic and dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.

Deceased is his wife of 52 years, Dorothy.

Surviving are a son, Robert Christopher (Gloria) Gibson; a daughter, Lynda Gibson; and a grandson, Robert Matthew Gibson, all of Southern California; a sister-in-law, Maryann Magnone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery Mausoleum.
