Robert E. Yaros
Robert E. “Bob” Yaros, 87, of Defiance, Ohio, peacefully passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018, in CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born March 4, 1930, in Washington, a son of Edward and Sophie Serwatka Yaros.
Mr. Yaros proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
On April 29, 1951, he married Hazel Mounts, who preceded him in death December 4, 2012.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Defiance. He was also a member of American Legion 541 in Continental, Ohio, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 3360.
Mr. Yaros worked at Montgomery Ward in Washington. He opened the first Uniroyal Tire store in Des Moines, Iowa, and then opened and managed stores in Toledo, Ohio, Defiance, and Adrian, Mich. He was honored as “Manager of the Year” at the Adrian store.
He enjoyed photography, his time with his dog, Molly, and spending time with friends at the VFW playing tickets. He will be missed by his family and many good friends.
Surviving are sons Robert F. (Cheryle Anderson) Yaros of Dundee, Mich., and Steven A. (Janet) Yaros of Defiance; four grandchildren, Michelle Gray of Charlotte, N.C., Stacey Yaros of Toledo, Anthony (Tevie) Yaros of Butler, Ind., and Robert L. Yaros of Toledo; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Yaros.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, in St. John Catholic Church, with Father John Stites officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, with graveside military rites accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars 3360.
