Ralph Edgar
Ralph “Ike” Edgar, 79, of Casselberry, Fla., formerly of Washington, died Monday, January 22, 2018, in his home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 23, 1938, in Ruff Creek, a son of the late Clarence S. and Dorothy Church Edgar.
He attended elementary school in Greene County and graduated from Washington High School in 1956. He participated in many sports and was selected on the 1956 Washington city all star football squad. After high school, he attended Slippery Rock College, before entering the U.S. Army. He served with the seventh division in Korea. He served a total of 8 ½ years with the military, serving with the U.S. Army, Army Reserve and PA National Guard. He was awarded five service ribbons, which included the Good Conduct Ribbon and Korea Defense Service Medal.
He played many years on the original SOL Mintz softball team and two years for the semi-professional football team, the Washington Generals.
He retired from Old Dominion Freight Lines. After retirement, he enjoyed going on cruises and going to the casinos with his fiancée, Virginia Engle and good friends Don and Cindy Greer. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends, Milkman, Pettit and Duncan. He was an avid bowler. He belonged to the Elks, Moose and Eagles.
Surviving, in addition to his fiancee, Virginia Engle, are a son, Ralph (Gretchen) Edgar of Peters Township; two daughters, Joy Lynn Edgar of Canton, Ohio, and Stephanie Edgar of North Versailles; grandson Vincent (Jessica) Edgar; granddaughter Sarah Grace Edgar; a great-granddaughter Rosalina; and brother Robert Edgar of Washington.
Funeral services will be private.
