Oneita Rae Stockdale Grimes

Oneita Rae Stockdale Grimes, 92, of New Freeport, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018, in her home, following a brief illness.

She was born November 5, 1925, in the home she lived in her entire life. She was a daughter of the late Spencer Stockdale and Nettie Wright Stockdale.

On February 28, 1948, she married Charles A. “Chuck” Grimes, who passed away July 16, 2016.

She attended Freeport Township public schools and graduated from Hundred (W.Va.) High School in 1944. Following high school, she was employed at First National Bank for several years.

Mrs. Grimes was a devoted member of Grandview United Methodist Church, Garrison, where she was pianist for many years. She also held many offices through the years, the most recent was that of treasurer. Over the years, she volunteered for many organizations to include the United Emergency Unit in Hundred, Greene County Food Bank and New Freeport Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Moore; brother-in-law Ralph Six; sister-in-law Carolyn Grimes; two nephews and their spouses, Doug and Wanda Six and Fred and Bobbie Six; three great-nephews, Adam Six, Hunter Six and Tanner Six; and a host of nieces and nephews on the Grimes side of the house.

In addition to her parents and her husband, deceased are her loving daughter, Bonita “Bonnie” Moore, who passed away January 16, 2016; a sister, Betty Jo Six; and a brother, who died as an infant.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10, in Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, with the Rev. Cynthia Deter officiating.
