Frank “Pap” Novotny of Houston passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 11, 2018, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the devoted husband to his late wife, Katherine; father to Rebecca; grandfather to Nicole (Jen), Nathan (Allison) and Ryan; and great-grandfather to Aubri and Jaxon.

He was part of the second graduating class at Chartiers-Houston High School.

Pap was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served his country in World War II. A farmer at heart, he came home to work on his family’s farm following the war. Later in life, he became a postal worker and then retired as postmaster from Avella after 28 years.

He loved the local sports teams, especially his grandkids’ softball (Greenleaf trophies), baseball and football teams. A loyal neighbor and member of Canonsburg Senior Citizen Center, he always enjoyed gardening, cooking, listening to music, telling a good joke and discussing history and politics.

Pap helped raise his five grandchildren with love and patience, always having time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He never turned down the opportunity to swing them on the swingset or sing a song.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 7 p.m., the time of service, Monday, July 16, in Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546.
