Scot Wayne Malson
Scot Wayne Malson, 40, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Monday, July 23, 2018, in his home.
He was born in Washington, March 25, 1978, a son of the late Lawrence “Sonny” and Beverly “Sue” (Slyder) Malson Jr.
Scot graduated from West Liberty State College and joined Ohio Valley Medical Center as a registered nurse. He worked on the Medical-Surgical Unit, was promoted to a nursing coordinator position in May 2004, and then advanced to nurse manager for the Five West Unit, Oncology Unit and IV Therapy Department in 2005.
Scot became director of nursing while attending Chamberlain University where he received his master’s degree in nursing in February 2018. He was then promoted to chief nursing officer.
Along with serving on many hospital committees, Scot served on the Community Advisory Board for West Liberty University’s Nursing Program. He was appointed to the West Virginia Organization of Nurse Executives Board of Directors in 2018.
Scot loved animals, especially Greyson and Brady. His family and friends were very special to him and he loved to host holiday parties for them.
He leaves behind his two brothers, Jeff (Laurie) Malson of West Alexander and Ed (Tammy) Malson of West Alexander; a cousin who was like a sister, Donna (Donald) Kelsall of Claysville; nephews Jeffrey (Jessica) Malson of Pittsburgh and Heath Malson of West Alexander; Donald “DJ” Kelsall of Claysville; nieces Jennifer Malson of West Alexander, Ashley (Dustin) Yoder of Washington and Brittany Kelsall of Claysville; six great-nieces and nephews, Cadence, Eva, Olivia, Shyanne, Bentlee and Landon; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends will be received from noon to 4 and 5 and 8 p.m. Friday, July 27, and again from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, July 28, with Randy Polan officiating at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, W.Va., 304-224-2311.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Scot Malson Nursing Scholarship Fund, River Valley Health Foundation, 2000 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
