Phyllis Skinner McIlwain

Phyllis Skinner McIlwain, 79, of McMurray, formerly of Evans City, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, with her loving husband by her side.
She was the beloved wife of 37 years to John McIlwain; loving mother of Patrick J. “PJ” McIlwain and Kevin J. (Holly) McIlwain; proud grandmother of John J. and James A. McIlwain; caring sister of Nancy Veltre and the late Richard (surviving Pam) Skinner; and stepmother of Deborah Yordy and Karen (Mark) Millner. Many loving nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Phyllis received her bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University, master’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and doctorate from University of Pittsburgh.
She was a professor in elementary education at California University for 35 years. Phyllis also served as faculty adviser director for Kappa Delta Phi and emeriti faculty member at California University.
She was also a longtime member of Red Hat Society in Peters Township. Phyllis enjoyed shopping and was an avid reader and charter member of the book-a-day club. Phyllis will be remembered for her caring nature, beauty, stylish fashion and, most of all, love for her family.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Beinhauer Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 8, in St. David’s Episcopal Church, 905 East McMurray Road, McMurray. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
