Mileva Bozic Medin

Mileva “Mary” Bozic Medin, 97, passed away after a lingering illness Monday, June 4, 2018, in Heritage Manor, Slidell, La.
Mileva Medin was proud of her heritage and her Orthodox Christian faith. She loved her Serbian language, folk music, dances, songs and social outings with friends. Her love of her heritage showed in active involvement in Serbian communities during her years in Pennsylvania.
She was a founding member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, where she held various positions as an officer on the church board, choir and Circle of Serbian Sisters. She later joined St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in McKeesport. Mileva loved to sing, and she was active in the choirs of both churches. She and her husband were members of Penn ‘Sembles Tamburitzans, musicians that frequently performed in the Pittsburgh area. After moving to Louisiana in 1996, she attended St. Basil’s Orthodox Church in Metairie, La.
Mileva, or “Mary,” as she was called by her American friends, was born July 21, 1920, in Midland, a daughter of late Ilja “Eli” and Stanka “Stella” Bozic and stepdaughter of the late Michael Kataran.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and stepfather, are her husband, Vaso Medin, who died in 1995; brothers Dimitri Bozic, Mike Brozik and George Brozik; and sister Mildred “Saya” Woatich.
Surviving are her daughter, Gloria Tarasuk Van Zandt, with whom she resided for 20 years in Slidell; granddaughters Cindy Van Zandt of Dallas, Texas, and Debra Van Zandt of Tulsa, Okla.; and a son-in-law, Robert. Also surviving are nieces Dianna Brozich, Betty Parmer and Nancy Mitchell; nephews Stan Brozik, Ronald Brozik, Mark Brozik and Michael Woatich; and their families. Her extended family includes stepdaughter Lee Anne Medin Burwell and husband Louis of Seattle, Wash., and granddaughters Nicolette and Bridgette Burwell.
Her loved ones were fortunate to have her all these years.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 10, in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, where a Pomen service will begin at 7 p.m., with Father Sasa Nedic officiating. An additional visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, the time of service, Monday, June 11, in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Carmichaels. Interment will follow in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church Cemetery.
