Marshall Charles Nunez

Marshall Charles Nunez, 96, of Burgettstown, passed away Sunday morning, June 10, 2018, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.
He was born November 3, 1921, and raised in Langeloth, a son of the late Manuel and Jesusa Perez Nunez.
After graduating in 1939 from Union High School in Burgettstown, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1942. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe during World War II, serving with the Allied forces on the second day (D-Day plus 1) of the storming of Normandy. He was honorably discharged in November 1945, with the rank of sergeant. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. Aside from his family and children, Mr. Nunez said his greatest accomplishment in life was his role in the liberation of the concentration camps.
He retired from American Foods in Slovan, where he was a salesman.
His beloved wife of more than 70 years, Helen Mozina Nunez, whom he married September 18, 1943, passed away April 15, 2015.
Surviving are his three daughters, Patricia Lese and husband Martin of Burgettstown, Audrey Kuzyck and husband Jim of Bethel Park and Janet Forney and husband Randy of Avella; grandchildren Alison Kuzyck, Alycia Dorsey and husband Justin, Marshall Forney, Mark Lese and Matthew Lese and wife Kristen; twin great-grandchildren Brylin and Jaxton Dorsey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family. Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are two brothers, Manuel and Joseph Nunez, and three sisters, Anna Galan, Frances Baima and Solena Mazek.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., the time of departing prayers, Tuesday, June 12, in Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 1109 Main Street, Burgettstown, with the Rev. Jack Demnyan as celebrant. Interment with full military honors will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Burgettstown.
