John Ferenci Jr.

John Ferenci Jr., 95, of Brownsville, died Thursday, June 14, 2018, in his home, following a brief illness.

He was born April 3, 1923, in Hiller, a son of the late John Ferenci Sr. and Esther Benke Ferenci Havanets. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, John Havanets.

John was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was a member of American Legion in Fredericktown and Nixon Gun Club. He was also a proud member of United Mine Workers of America Local 762. He retired from J&L Steel Vesta No. 5 mine and Labelle Prep Plant.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Dorsey Ferenci, and sisters Esther Damin and Elizabeth Hall.

John is survived by a son, Jack Ferenci and wife Debbie, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Skirpan Funeral Home, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, where a prayer service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 18, followed by a funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. in Historic Church of St. Peter, Brownsville, with the Rev. Timothy Kruthaupt as celebrant. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, with full military rites accorded by American Legion Posts 940, 295 and 838.
