Robert J. Darabant

Robert J. “Red” Darabant, 82, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 21, 2018, in Premier Washington Health Center, Chartiers Township.

He was born March 3, 1936, in Oakdale, a son of the late Joseph Nicholas and Sophie A. Piecuch Darabant.

In October 1961, he married Opal L. Hootman, who passed away Friday, January 22, 2016.

Mr. Darabant was a good husband, father and grandfather and was known to many as “Red.” He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Red was able to travel to places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, Canada and California. He was a hard worker and a do-it-yourself kind of guy.

Left behind to cherish his memory are four beloved children, Diana R. Hughes and husband Chuck of Burgettstown, Robert J. Darabant Jr. and wife Beth of Boston, Mass., Kevin G. Darabant and wife Christine of Peoria, Ariz., and Suzanne Chichester and husband Charles of McDonald; six beautiful grandchildren; five beautiful great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice A. (Paul) Kowal of Oakdale; a brother-in-law, Al Morzzarella of Imperial; sisters-in-law Ida Jean (Murl) Barr of New Cumberland, W.Va., Betty Ruth McCarthy of Southview and Helen Hootman of Ashville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
