David J. Girdish Sr.

David J. Girdish Sr., 75, of Richeyville, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, in Manor Care Nursing Home, McMurray.

He was born October 4, 1942, in Rosiclare, Ill., a son of the late Daniel and Anne Humanik Girdish.

He was a 1960 graduate of Beth-Center High School.

He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 66 of Pittsburgh for over 50 years.

His hobbies were collecting trains and lanterns. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and loved to spend time at their camp at Jockey Hollow Campground.

Mr. Girdish was active in the National Pike Steam, Gas and Horse Association and enjoyed showing off his 1953 Willys Jeep.

On February 8, 1964, he married Marie E. Sawicky Girdish, who survives. They spent 54 wonderful years together.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two children who considered Mr. Girdish a great dad, son David Girdish (Cindy) of Scenery Hill and daughter Lisa Girdish (Dave Jones) of Deemston Borough; two grandchildren, Andrew David Girdish and Samantha L. Girdish (Drew); and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Daniel and John Girdish. His best buddy, Abby, his dog, passed away 3½ weeks ago.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 100 West Station Square Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
