Eleanor Reeves Minor

Eleanor Reeves Minor, 101, of Prosperity, went to be with her Lord at 3:25 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018, in Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Morgantown, W.Va.

She was born Monday, October 30, 1916, in Moscow, Idaho, a daughter of the late David S. and Bertha E. Schumacher Reeves. Her early life was spent out West, and she had been a resident of Greene County since 1946.

Mrs. Minor was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg, but attended Bethlehem Baptist Church of Ruff Creek, Prosperity, where she had served as choir director for several years.

She attended Los Angeles Junior College and Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky.

Mrs. Minor was a member of Mothers’ Study Club, Garden Club and Greene County Horsemen’s Association. She was one of the first volunteers when the gift shop opened at the former Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg.

She was a soloist for the church, many organizations, weddings and funerals. Mrs. Minor traveled for a year with the church group, giving Biblical dramas in churches all across the United States. She was also one of the soloists in Handel’s Messiah, given at Christmas by all the church choirs in Greene County.

Before her marriage, she worked at Hensheys Department Store, Santa Monica, Calif. At one time, she was on the election board for Washington Township. She had also worked as an instructional aide in the reading program at Central Greene School District.

Her husband, William C. Minor, whom she married April 21, 1946, died May 12, 1992.

Surviving are a son, Dr. William R. Minor and wife Denise of Prosperity; three granddaughters, Autumn Lemley and husband Cliff, Lauren Schaefer and husband Kameron and Lindsey Courtney and husband Colter; a great-granddaughter, Amelia Lemley; a great-grandson, Otis Courtney; a sister-in-law, Judith Reeves of Long Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a sister, Maxine Vann; and six brothers, Floyd Reeves, Harold Reeves, Charles Reeves, Robert Reeves, Edwin Reeves and David Reeves.

There will be a greeting of friends and family from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of memorial service, Saturday, April 14, in First Church of the Nazarene, 115 Deerfield Lane, Waynesburg, with the Rev. David Earnest and the Rev. John Poling officiating. Burial will be private in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, is charge of arrangements.

The family ask, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 685 Washington Road, Prosperity, PA 15329.
