Lawrence Malson Jr.
Lawrence “Sonny” Malson Jr. passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born August 3, 1938, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Lawrence Sr. and Stella Myers Malson.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Beverly Sue Slyder Malson, who died July 19, 2017, and a beloved uncle, Ralph Myers.
Mr. Malson was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, Wheeling, where he was past grand. He was an active member in West Alexander Volunteer Fire Department and served as past president of the boosters and treasurer of the relief fund since 1990. He was on West Alexander Cemetery Board since 1976, and he was treasurer of West Alexander Dartball League in the past.
He was a graduate of West Alexander High School.
In March 2006, Mr. Malson retired from Zappi Oil Co. in Washington. He drove a truck for Don Swart Trucking for seven years, sold John Deere equipment for 13 years and helped restore John Deere lawn and garden tractors with his sons.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing – especially at the cabin he built just outside Tylersburg.
Mr. Malson leaves behind his three sons, Jeff (Laurie) Malson and Ed (Tammy) Malson, both of West Alexander, and Scot Malson of Warwood, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jessica) Malson of Pittsburgh, Jennifer Malson of West Alexander, Ashley (Dustin) Yoder of Washington and Heath (Shannon) Malson of Avella; six great-grandchildren, Cadence, Eva, Olivia, Shyanne, Bentlee and Landon; sister, Velma Taggart Hewitt of Wheeling; brother, Bill (Sue) Malson of Beech Bottom, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his beloved puppy, Precious.
Friends will be received from noon to 5 p.m., the time of service, Sunday, March 4, in Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, 304-242-2311, with Randy Polan officiating.
