Anthony Diakakis
Anthony “Tony” Diakakis, 88, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, March 3, 2018, in Concordia Hospice of Washington, Donnell House.
He was born July 18, 1929, in Canonsburg, a son of Nick and Penelope Matsakis Diakakis.
On April 18, 1958, in Athens, Greece, he married Katy Balsami, who survives.
Mr. Diakakis was a loyal and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He considered himself blessed to watch his grandchildren grow up.
He retired from Jessop Steel.
Mr. Diakakis was an active member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Canonsburg, where he was former treasurer. He was also a member of AHEPA, Pan Rhodian Society and White Eagles Society of Canonsburg. He enjoyed watching the Steelers, Pirates and “Judge Judy.” He and his wife also shared many memories on their annual trips to Greece.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Penelope “Penny” Casella and husband Larry and Jacqueline “Jackie” Alberty, both of Mt. Lebanon; five grandchildren, Anthony and Nina Casella and John, Anastasia and Gabrielle Alberty; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three sisters, Marsha D. Stamatakis, Carrie Conis and Katherine Georges.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services, Wednesday, March 7, in All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 601 West McMurray Road, Canonsburg, PA 15317, with Father George Livanos officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens Mausoleum, McMurray. A Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
