Hazel Wilhemina Buckel Hewitt
Hazel Wilhemina Buckel Hewitt passed away peacefully Thursday, March 8, 2018.
She was born September 19, 1927, in Washington County, a daughter of the late William and Nora Plance Buckel. She was the last of her immediate family.
She graduated from Claysville High school in 1946 and lived and worked as a dairy farmer in the Claysville area her entire life.
On March 18, 1946, she married the late Robert Hewitt at Dutch Fork Church in Claysville. They had been married for 69 years before his passing August 27, 2015.
Together, they had seven children, Judy (Tom) Dubich of Burgettstown, Bill (Cathy) Hewitt of Claysville, Gary Hewitt of West Alexander, Joyce Mahan of West Alexander, Janet (Don) Lindley of Avella and Jodi (Larry) Sloneker of Claysville, as well as Thomas Hewitt, who died October 29, 2006.
She was a grandmother to nine grandchildren, Heather West, Karen Patterson, Jenny Hoefler, Maryann Duff, Bob Dubich, Melissa Dubich and Tom, Tim and Dan Hewitt; 17 great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren, Michelle Irey and Brian Hancher.
She was preceded in death by her four siblings, William Buckel, Vernie Barkley, Peg Taucher and Harriet Buckel, who died at a very early age, and two great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed gardening and her flowers in the summer, quilting, jigsaw puzzles, plastic canvas and playing cards with friends and family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 219 Main Street, Claysville, 724-663-7373, www.youngfhinc.com.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Sue Petritis of Gateway Hospice officiating.
She will be buried in the family cemetery beside her husband on the Hewitt farm in Claysville.
