Wilma Elizabeth Banfield
Wilma Elizabeth Banfield, 95, of Washington, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, in Premier Washington Health Center.
She was born April 16, 1922, in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of the late John E. and Anna Catherine Sommer Winzenreid.
Mrs. Banfield was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, Bridgeport Ohio, and Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing, Wheeling, W.Va.
She was a registered nurse who worked at Washington Hospital and McMurray Hills Manor, from where she retired in 1988.
Mrs. Banfield was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Washington, where she was a member of the women’s guild. She was also associated with Aid Association for Lutherans.
She was a member of Ohio Valley General Hospital Alumni Association and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
On January 20, 1946, in Bridgeport, she married Donald J. Banfield, who died June 9, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, James R. (Nancy) Banfield and David W. (Cheri) Banfield, both of Washington; four daughters, Sherry L. Mutchler of Pittsburgh, Donna R. (Dennis) Reinsel of Franklin and Lori (Steve) Ritter and Cathy Plants, both of Washington; 11 grandchildren, Sumerlea N. (Matt) McGuire, Denise (Bryan) Thatcher, Donald (Becky) Reinsel, Douglas R. (Stephanie) Reinsel, Dana R. (Luke) Horn, Brandon M. Banfield, Mishelle R. (Tim) Jarosz, James D. (Amy) Banfield, Michael W. Ritter, Joshua A. (Donna) Ritter and Rusty J. Plants; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Paul E. Winzenreid; three sisters, Helen A. Knapp, Catherine L. Schaal and Ruth A. Jenkins; a grandson, Robert R. Banfield; and two sons-in-law, Donald Mutchler and James R. Plants.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 775 North Main Street, Washington, PA 15301, with the Rev. Elizabeth Mayforth officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
