Paul Edison Ames
Paul Edison “Sonny” Ames, 85, of Washington, died Saturday, March 17, 2018, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born March 11, 1933, in Marianna, a son of the late Paul S. and Anna Hart Ames.
A graduate of Trinity High School, he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glyde.
Mr. Ames worked as a home building contractor for his company, Paul E. Ames Builder.
He enjoyed archery, and was the past president of Washington Archery Club. He also enjoyed hunting, which he mostly did in Potter County and during his hunting trips to Montana.
On February 9, 1952, he married Mary Ann Young, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Paul L. Ames of Washington; a brother, John (Sarah) Ames of Marianna; and three sisters, Dolores “Sis” (Stanley) Majesky of Marianna, Betty (Roy “Dutch”) Naser of Washington and Ruth Crispin of Hillsboro, N.C.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 21 Church Road, Scenery Hill. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr. Ames was a strong supporter of the NRA, and the family suggests memorial donations be made to the National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
