Jean A. Karikas, 95, of Avella, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.

She was born March 9, 1923, in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of the late Peter and Ann Paisano Folio.

Mrs. Karikas was a 1942 graduate of Wellsburg (W.Va.) High School. After graduating from high school, she worked at Eriskine Glass, Wellsburg, and later worked at the Avella flower shop.

She lived in Avella since 1945 and was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church of Avella, where she was a member of Christian Mothers. She was a member of American Legion Bert C. Siders Post 643 Ladies Auxiliary, Polar Star Mutual Benefit Society and Cross Creek Valley Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Karikas loved spending time with her family, swimming at Brooke Hills Park, ceramics, painting, dancing and traveling.

On March 11, 1944, she married Coleman Joseph Karikas Jr., who died November 11, 1967.

Surviving are two daughters, Kay (Joe) Danna of Avella and Krissie Brownlee of Canonsburg; six grandchildren, John (Sandy) Danna, Desiree (Shawn) Georgetti, Patience Danna and Laura, Rebecca and Jessica Brownlee; five great-grandchildren, Coleman, Jade, Tori, Kodi and Abigail; a great-great-granddaughter, Paisley; and a brother, Dr. John (Joan) Folio of Frederick, Md.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a daughter, Karen Hinerman; two sons-in-law, Paul L. Brownlee Jr. and James Hinerman; five sisters, Mary, Marion, Edith, Virginia and Helen; and three brothers, Phillip, Andrew and Joe.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 97 Highland Avenue, Avella, PA 15312, with the Rev. Robert M. Staszewski as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Avella.
