Richard Raymond LaVelle
Richard Raymond LaVelle, 61, of Washington passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
Born February 10, 1957, in Washington to the late Janice R. and Robert W. LaVelle, he was a lifelong resident of Washington.
He attended Trinity High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1975 and went on to study at the School of Computer Technology, graduating in 1983.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1975 to 1983, and was very proud of his veteran status.
He spent most of his career in the flooring industry, working with several local flooring contractors, as well as independently. Recently, he embarked on a new career as a professional truck driver for CR England, transporting goods across the country.
An avid Steelers fan, he enjoyed cheering for the black and gold, as well as attending games on the north shore with his many close friends. He was also a technology buff and enjoyed working with computers and software of all kind.
On August 21, 1992, he married the former Patricia Abbott, who survives.
He was an avid reader, die hard Pittsburgh Steelers and Star Trek fan, as well as a computer buff, among his many interests.
He was well-known in the Washington area and endeared himself to all who were fortunate enough to know him. He, too, valued the many close friendships he fostered over the years and enjoyed spending time with those dear to him. He was a selfless man, always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear. He will be remembered for his kind nature, warm heart and for having truly been a friend to all. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Also surviving are a brother, Gary LaVelle of Washington, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and other surviving relatives and friends.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. Military honors will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion at 3 p.m., in the funeral home.
All other services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
