Melvin Zubritsky

Melvin Zubritsky, 92, of Monessen, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born February 13, 1926, in Monessen, a son of the late Wasyl and Mary Klipnick Zubritsky.

Melvin was a 1944 graduate of Monessen High School and Douglas Business School.

He was a yeoman first class in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.

Melvin worked as an accountant for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. in Allenport, where he was president of United Steelworkers Local 3404.

He was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Monessen, Elks Lodge 773, Monessen, Moose Lodge 103 and American Legion Post 28, Monessen.

He was an enthusiastic Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan, and he faithfully attended Pittsburgh Panthers football games for many years. He was a dedicated father and grandfather, and his favorite times were spent with his children and grandchildren and enjoying family vacations at the beach. He never missed attending his children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events, recitals or concerts. He was always there to help a family member or friend.

During his last few years at home, he and his wife were blessed with many loving caregivers.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Germaine and husband Tom Biksey of Washington and Nancy and husband Jack Goodrich of Gibsonia; grandchildren Mallory and Ben Newman, Lindsey and Jon Pollock, Michael Biksey, Michelle Biksey and Elizabeth Goodrich; a sister-in-law, Joan Zubritsky; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are his wife of 66 years, Ethel Zubritsky; two sons, Thomas Zubritsky and infant Melvin; a granddaughter, Marissa Biksey Zubritsky; four brothers, Charles, Alexander, John and Michael Zubritsky; and two sisters, Irene (Henry) Skoczlas and Kathryn Fordanich.

Friends will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Rhome Funeral Home Inc., 1209 Grand Boulevard, Monessen, where a Panachida service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3. A divine liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Monessen, with Father Stephen Wahal officiating. Internment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rostraver Township.
