Robert E. Fisher Sr.

Robert E. Fisher Sr., 81, of Washington, formerly of California, died Saturday, May 5, 2018, in Donnell House, Washington, following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 15, 1936, in Daisytown, a son of the late James W. and Rose Briton Fisher.

Mr. Fisher was Methodist.

He graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in education/psychology. While at California University, he also minored in earth science and civil defense training. Mr. Fisher had a hunger to learn and gain as much knowledge in life as possible. He went on to take a Dale Carnegie management education course and graduated from Jones and Laughlin School of Mining Law. Mr. Fisher received CPR and EMT training at California University of Pennsylvania. This training truly paid off, as he was among the first 10 men trained and authorized to render CPR in the coal mine. He was also a Mine Safety and Health Administration trained instructor at Pennsylvania State University.

Mr. Fisher first worked for Pennsylvania/Ohio Railroad. He then became employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 10 years. Mr. Fisher then began his career as a coal miner. He became superintendent of Gateway Coal Co. and Emerald Mine in Waynesburg. Mr. Fisher finished his working career at Jessop Steel in Washington.

He was a member of the Washington County Democratic Committee for the past 38 years. He also served on the Pennsylvania State Democratic Executive Committee.

Mr. Fisher was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a strong belief in environmental protection. Most important to Mr. Fisher was his strong and everlasting belief in the defense of democracy.

In 1957, he married Judith L. Jenkins, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Robert E. Fisher Jr. of Bridgeville; son-in-law Bruce Chalmers; four grandchildren, Ian Burr Chalmers, Kyle Burr Chalmers, Dallas Rose Chalmers and Ryan Robert Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a daughter, Cara Lee Fisher Chalmers; three brothers, James, John and Howard Dale Fisher; and two sisters, Marlene Lamb and Doris Fisher.

All arrangements are private and under the direction of Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., corner of Wilson and East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director.
