John Leroy Gilmore
John Leroy Gilmore, 86, of Finleyville, died Saturday, March 17, 2018, in Gulf Coast Medical Center, Fort Myers, Fla. He was born May 4, 1931, in West Elizabeth, a son of John R. and Mabel Elaine Weigle Gilmore.
John was a 1949 graduate of Clairton High School and a veteran in the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. After thirty years of employment, he retired from US Steel Clairton Works. John was the ultimate handyman and could fix anything. He enjoyed woodworking and painting at home. A member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish (formerly Transfiguration), he volunteered at the church for its donut sales, fish fries, flea markets and made sure the lights were on for summer festivals in Chess Park. John also volunteered his time with the auxiliary at Monongahela Valley Hospital for many years running the elevators and working in the gift shop.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Jeanne DeHosse Gilmore, with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage January 15, 2018; two daughters, Barbara Ann Gilmore Garfold and husband Paul F. Garfold of Bonita Springs, Fla., Donna Jeanne Gilmore of Bonita Springs; son John Alphonse Gilmore and wife Nancy Yachem Gilmore of Oakdale; four grandchildren, Lindsey Dale Kerekanich, Evan John Kerekanich, Abby Nichole Gilmore and Nicholas John Gilmore; sister, Norma Lou Frazee of Friendsville, Md.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty J. Gilmore Guard, who died March 17, 2008.
Friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, in St. Damien of Molokai Church with the Rev. William Terza, pastor as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela.
