Joseph J. Stranko
Joseph J. Stranko, 76, of Bentleyville, passed away peacefully Friday, May 25, 2018.
He was born July 17, 1941, in Donora, a son of the late Joseph and Eva Telleck Staranko.
Joe was a 1959 graduate of Bentleyville High School.
Self-employed, Joe owned and operated Star Lanes in Monessen for many years and went on to own and operate Tan-O-Bell Lanes in Bentleyville for 30 years. In addition to his own business, he was an agent for Baltimore Life Insurance Co. for several years. For the past five years, he was employed by The Meadows Casino at their bowling facility.
Always an avid bowler, Joe had multiple 300 games to his credit. He also enjoyed music, especially Motown music, and worked as a DJ, which led him to have an extensive record collection.
Attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with them brought him special enjoyment. He also enjoyed Pittsburgh Pirates baseball.
Surviving are two children, Jamie Dziak (Charles) of Eighty Four and Michael Stranko of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Charis, Shelby, Cheyenne and Shawn; two great-grandchildren, Tresten and Jaeci; two sisters, Judy Petrick of Finleyville and Dorothy Arrigo of Maryland; a brother, Andrew Staranko (Sharon) of Charleroi; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are twin sons David and Daniel Stranko and a grandson, Shane Joseph Dziak.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, with Pastor Sheldon Barnette officiating. Interment will be held privately in Beallsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bentworth High School Football and Cheerleading, P.O. Box 18, Bentleyville, PA 15314.
