Robert A. Karas

Robert A. Karas, 77, of McDonald, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born October 4, 1940, in Cherry Valley, a son of the late Adolph and Helen Stopenski Karas.

Mr. Karas was a member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church and was retired from Consol Energy’s Bailey Mine in Greene County. He was a humble handyman and enjoyed helping many throughout the community with various projects. He was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed iron crafting and inventing.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Patton Karas of McDonald, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage June 1, 2018; daughters Kris (John) Holland of Virginia and Marie (Greg) Herlevi of Ohio; and grandchildren Jack and Kasey Holland and Greta Herlevi. Also surviving are his sisters, Helen Baloga of Burgettstown, Martha (Bill) McCreight of Burgettstown and Elizabeth Kinser of Primrose.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Thomas-Little Funeral Service Inc., 314 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, 724-926-2800. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. Friday, June 1, in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 219 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Red Cross.
