Samuel Joseph Bonus
Samuel Joseph “Bones” Bonus, 82, of Buffalo Township, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 31, 2018, in his home.
He was born April 20, 1936, in Washington, a son of the late John and Caroline Kopko Bonus.
He was a graduate of Washington High School, having received his diploma while serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
During his military service in the Air Force, he served as an air policeman.
Samuel was a lover and very well loved. He took pride in his nine horses, his Colleen, his 10 beautiful children and every dog he ever owned. He will be remembered by many as an avid outdoorsman, western rider, coffee drinker, novel reader, Steelers fan or by simply “Bones.”
Being an excellent father to 10 children is never easy, but he made it look like easy bliss. Samuel is and forever will be the heart of his family with sad but greatly blessed hearts. “We all watch as our cowboy rides away.”
Sam was a life member of Raccoon Valley Sportsmen’s Association.
Jessop Steel Co. employed him as a steelworker for 32 years.
On March 28, 1998, in Church of the Covenant, Washington, he married Colleen Thompson, who survives.
Surviving are 10 children, Samantha, Katherine, Zachary and Victor Bonus and Carolyn Ann Bonus, Valerie Bonus, Jackie (Tracy) Kotchman, Linda (Ian) Bonus-Klock, Samuel C. (Sarah) Bonus and Alan Bonus.
Also surviving are his ex-wife, Jean A. Hoffman of Woodbridge, England; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a brother, John (Lee) Bonus; a sister-in-law, Regina Bonus; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Vernon Bonus.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 2, in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 1290 Jefferson Avenue, Washington. At his own request, cremation will follow at a later date.
