Raymond Ross Conklin, 85, of Amwell Township, died peacefully in his home Thursday, November 8, 2018.

He was born February 7, 1933, in Hickory, a son of the late Kenneth C. and Grace E. Snedeker Conklin.

Mr. Conklin was a graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School.

He served in the U.S. Army with the rank of corporal from 1953 until 1955 during the Korean War, where he received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Conklin served with the 97th Engineering Battalion, where he spent time overseas in Paris, France. After being honorably discharged from active duty, Mr. Conklin worked as a master carpenter in the South Hills area for almost 50 years.

His passions in life were his farm, horses, children and grandchildren. Mr. Conklin was very involved with and was the driving force behind his daughter’s and granddaughter’s love of barrel racing. He was an avid reader and was a big Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. Most of all, Mr. Conklin was a true family man who enjoyed all the times he spent with his family. His family was his life, and he will be dearly missed.

On December 1, 1956, he married Betty J. Wallow, who survives. The couple would have celebrated 62 years of marriage in December.

Also surviving are two sons, Mark Raymond Conklin of Amwell Township and Eric Allan (Christy) Conklin of Hilliard, Ohio; daughter, Marie Beth (Albert) Guido of Washington; sister, Audrey Bunner of Upper St. Clair; four grandchildren, Morgan Guido, Joseph Conklin, Lauren Conklin and Jack Conklin; a special nephew, John Evans; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no public visitation. Private entombment will be held in Washington Cemetery Four Seasons Mausoleum. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the U.S. Army.
